Overview
Derek Muller's science channel, one of the largest on the platform, makes explanatory films on physics, engineering, and mathematics: how electricity actually moves through a wire, why the speed of light cannot be measured one way, the Monty Hall problem, the history of a particular equation, the engineering of a dam or a bridge. Muller has a PhD in physics education and many episodes are built around a misconception, stated first by members of the public and then corrected.
Notes
Veritasium's distinctive move, which comes from Muller's research, is to show the wrong answer before the right one, because a correction is not remembered unless the viewer first notices that their own model has failed. That is the mechanism I describe under Knowledge: models change by surprise. Some of the more recent videos have been criticised for sponsorship and for overstated claims, and the criticism has been fair, but the core explanatory work remains excellent.
