Rutger Bregman
Notes
Rutger Bregman (born 1988), Dutch historian and writer. Utopia for Realists (English edition 2017) is the most readable case for a universal basic income, open borders and a fifteen-hour week, and is the source for the Dauphin and Nixon stories most people have heard. Humankind (2020) argues that people are more decent than the social sciences have assumed. He became briefly famous at Davos in 2019 for telling a room of billionaires that the answer to inequality was "taxes, taxes, taxes". He appears here as the optimistic end of the basic-income argument, which I find persuasive about the goal and loose about the sums.
