Herodotus
Notes
Herodotus (c. 484–425 BC), Greek author of the Histories and "the father of history". Collected accounts of the Persian Wars and everything else he heard on his travels, with a mix of real inquiry and uncritical repetition that earned him the second title "father of lies". The first person to make checking sources a method, even when he forgot to.
