Overview

The channel of Bart D. Ehrman, New Testament scholar at the University of North Carolina, and home of his weekly podcast Misquoting Jesus, co-hosted with Megan Lewis. Episodes take one question at a time: who wrote the Gospels, how the texts were copied and changed, what Paul actually believed, where the idea of hell came from, whether the Resurrection can be investigated historically. Alongside the podcast are lectures, question-and-answer sessions, and promotions for his online courses. Ehrman is a former evangelical who became an agnostic through the study of the texts, and he says so without making it the point.

Notes

The scholar most of my New Testament positions lean on, in his own words and at podcast length. Historical Reliability of the New Testament, Historical evidence of the Resurrection of Jesus, Biblical Literalism and Inerrancy and The Historicity of Jesus all rest on the kind of mainstream textual scholarship he explains here, and he is as firm against the mythicists as against the inerrantists, which is the reason to trust him on both. The books are better organised; the podcast is better company.
