Judith Jarvis Thomson
Notes
Judith Jarvis Thomson (1929–2020), American philosopher at MIT. Gave the Trolley Problem its name and most of its famous variants, including the footbridge case, in papers of 1976 and 1985. Also the author of "A Defense of Abortion" (1971), the most-reprinted paper in applied ethics, which argues by way of the "famous violinist" thought experiment that even granting the foetus a right to life, it does not follow that it has a right to the use of another person's body. See Abortion.
