James Randi

Notes

James Randi (1928–2020), Canadian-American stage magician and the most effective investigator of paranormal claims of the twentieth century. He exposed the faith healer Peter Popoff's radio earpiece on live television in 1986, confounded Uri Geller on The Tonight Show in 1973 by controlling the props, and ran the One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge from 1964 to 2015, which no applicant ever passed. His point was always the same: scientists are easy to fool because nature does not cheat, and a magician is the right person to test a claim that something is being done by means the audience cannot see.
