Avi Loeb
Notes
Avi Loeb (born 1962), Israeli-American theoretical astrophysicist, long-serving chair of Harvard's astronomy department and a serious cosmologist, who since 2018 has argued that the interstellar object 'Oumuamua was probably an alien artefact and that science should prefer that hypothesis until it is ruled out. He founded the Galileo Project to search for alien technology and led a 2023 expedition that dredged spherules from the Pacific which he announced as interstellar and others identified as coal ash. He appears in UFOs and UAP as proof that a Harvard chair is no protection against the Appeal to Ignorance, and as a counter-example to the claim that the scientific establishment suppresses the question: it gave him the chair, the funding and the microphone.
