Martin Heidegger (1889–1976), German philosopher of Being and Time, which asks what it means to be and answers in a vocabulary of his own invention. Hugely influential on Existentialism and continental philosophy. Also a Nazi party member who never adequately explained himself, which his admirers have been explaining ever since.
