Derren Brown
Notes
Derren Brown (born 1971), British mentalist and writer, a former evangelical Christian who lost his faith in his twenties and has since used the techniques of the stage psychic to show how they are done. In Messiah (2005) he convinced American audiences he had psychic, medical and spiritual powers while repeatedly stating that he had none; in Miracle (2016) he reproduced an evangelical faith-healing service, cures included, by suggestion alone. He is here as the clearest demonstration that cold reading, hot reading and crowd psychology account for the whole of what mediums and healers do.
