Charlie Chaplin
Notes
Sir Charles Chaplin (1889–1977), English comic actor and film-maker, the most famous performer of the silent era. "Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot" is his (see Quotes I like). The Great Dictator (1940) was the first major American film to attack Hitler directly, at a time when doing so was commercially unwise.
