A.J. Ayer
Notes
A. J. Ayer (1910–1989), British philosopher who brought logical positivism to the English-speaking world with Language, Truth and Logic. Held that a statement is meaningful only if it is analytic or empirically verifiable, which dispatches most metaphysics and theology in one move. The verification principle fails its own test, but the instinct behind it survives in my Empiricist principle.
