Michael Persinger
Notes
Michael Persinger (1945–2018), American-born neuroscientist at Laurentian University in Ontario, best known for the "God helmet", a modified snowmobile helmet applying weak magnetic fields to the temporal lobes, which he reported produced a "sensed presence" in most subjects. A double-blind Swedish replication in 2005 found that the effect tracked suggestibility rather than the field. Either result makes his point, which was that religious experience is produced by the brain; the dispute is only over which part.
