Charles Sanders Peirce (1839–1914), American philosopher, logician, and scientist, founder of pragmatism and the thinker most associated with fallibilism: the view that no belief is beyond the possibility of revision. Largely ignored in his lifetime; now regarded as one of the most original philosophers America has produced.
