Richard Carrier (born 1969), American historian of antiquity and the most rigorous modern proponent of mythicism, the view that Jesus began as a celestial being and was historicised later. On the Historicity of Jesus (2014) argues the case with Bayesian reasoning and concludes the odds favour no historical Jesus. He is a minority of roughly one among specialists, and his work is cited here as the strongest version of a position I do not hold.
