Overview
Jay Foreman is a British comedian whose channel is home to Map Men, made with Mark Cooper-Jones, in which each episode explains one cartographic oddity with a joke density that would embarrass a sitcom; Unfinished London, on the transport and planning schemes that shaped the city or failed to; and Politics Unboringed, which explains British electoral politics, including first-past-the-post, to people who would rather not have to care. There are also songs. The research is done first and the jokes are built on it, which is the correct order and the unusual one.
Notes
The best British example of the thing I value most in explainers: finding out what is actually true before being funny about it. Map Men is covered under Map Men and the book under This Way Up; Politics Unboringed is one of the clearest explanations of why the British electoral system produces the results it does, and should be shown in schools. Short, dense, and nothing in it is padding.
