Robert Sapolsky (born 1957), American neuroscientist and primatologist at Stanford. Behave traces a single action back through seconds, hours, years and millennia of causes; Determined concludes that there is no room left for free will at any point in that chain. I agree with him, and with his view that this changes what punishment can be for.
