Overview
Destin Sandlin is a mechanical engineer from Alabama who has run Smarter Every Day since 2007. The videos follow a single question until it is answered, often with a high-speed camera: how a Prince Rupert's drop shatters, why a bicycle with reversed steering cannot be ridden, how a cat rights itself in the air. The longer series go inside places the public does not see, including a US Navy submarine on patrol, a Kodak film factory, and NASA facilities, and let the engineers there explain their own work. Sandlin is an evangelical Christian and says so.
Notes
On the list for the method, which is curiosity followed through, and for the proof that a believer can do flawless science communication without the belief ever touching the work. Sandlin's faith is on the channel and his science is untouched by it, which is both the compartmentalisation I describe under Faith and a reminder that the people on the other side of that argument are often very good at their jobs. The submarine series alone justifies the subscription.
