David Irving

Notes

David Irving (born 1938), English writer on the Second World War who moved from revisionism to outright Holocaust denial. In 2000 he sued Deborah Lipstadt and Penguin Books for libel in the English High Court for calling him a denier, and lost comprehensively: the judge found that he had "deliberately misrepresented and manipulated historical evidence" and was "an active Holocaust denier; that he is anti-Semitic and racist". The judgment (Irving v Penguin Books and Lipstadt) is the most thorough judicial examination of denial claims ever conducted, and Richard J. Evans's expert report is the definitive account of how Irving's history was falsified.
