Eugene Wigner
Notes
Eugene Wigner (1902–1995) was a Hungarian-American theoretical physicist who shared the 1963 Nobel Prize for his work on symmetry principles in quantum mechanics. His 1960 essay "The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Natural Sciences" ends in puzzlement at how well mathematics fits the world, and apologists have since borrowed the puzzle for the Argument from Mathematical Intelligibility. Wigner himself drew no theological conclusion.
